Common problems with air conditioning – and how to avoid them!

The sun is out, and the temperatures are rising – could summer finally be here?  Great news for some but not everyone.  Better weather can bring with it serious problems for health and employee productivity.

Here we look at some of the benefits of air conditioning in the workplace.

1. Don’t get hot under the collar

No one likes to feel hot and sticky at work.  We’ve all experienced that sluggishness that comes with the hot weather.  In fact, studies have shown that the energy the body expends trying to keep cool can affect our ability to think and reasons.  Air conditioning systems provide a constant and comfortable temperature whatever the weather is outside.   Also, as temperatures rise so do our tempers so a cool environment at work, or at home, is key to maintaining the harmony in our lives.

 2. Better air quality

Busy offices are a breeding ground for coughs and sneezes.  Air conditioning systems circulate, cool and filter air, reducing the number of bacteria and dust particles, odours and potential allergens.  This is especially important for people who suffer from allergies and asthma because it minimises the irritants that can trigger an attack.  However, this is only true is your system is kept clean and the filters are regularly changed, so a frequent maintenance schedule is important.

3. Improved employee productivity levels

Have you ever thought that the air quality at home or work could be affecting how you feel?  Often the cause of feeling fatigued and unmotivated can be traced back to the environment in which you live or work. Many people don’t realise that being too hot, too cold or frequently fluctuating temperatures can have a big impact not just on your productivity but also your health.  Extremes of temperature can leave you tired and run down your immune system.  An air conditioning system maintains a constant room temperature which puts the body on an even keel and makes them better equipped to fight off infection.

4. Protecting business critical equipment

It’s not just people who can overheat – modern workplaces are packed with technology that generates heat.  The phones and computers we depend on daily can suffer serious meltdowns when temperatures rise, leading to a potential loss of data and even shorten their lifespan.  This is even more critical in Server Rooms.  This heat needs to be removed to ensure sensitive equipment doesn’t overheat.  Air conditioning helps by taking away heat and humidity, ensuring your business-critical equipment is safe.

5. Energy efficiency

Air conditioning technology is constantly evolving and is becoming ever more energy efficient.  Air conditioning systems efficiently keep you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s not, providing a constant and comfortable temperature while minimising energy use, reducing utility costs and your carbon footprint.
