Why should I get my air conditioning serviced?

Your air conditioning will have been working hard all summer, hopefully without a problem.  If so, why should you think about getting it serviced?  Well, just like your car or boiler, your air conditioning needs regular servicing to ensure it works effectively and efficiently for years to come.

The filters, coils and fins all require regular maintenance for the unit to work efficiently.  The refrigerant levels, pumps and electronics also need regular professional service.  It’s much better to get it serviced now, rather than waiting for costly faults and problems to arise!

Are Air Conditioning Systems Classed as Heat Pumps?

The majority of new air conditioning systems qualify for the 0% rate of VAT.

This is because they provide both heating and cooling and are referred to as air-to-air heat pumps.

We install the latest air conditioning heat pumps that are both efficient, cost-effective and attractive, making them the perfect addition to your home.

So, if you’re considering air conditioning for your home and want to take advantage of the 0% VAT rate, contact us to discuss your requirements and get a free no obligation quote.

Will it really matter if I don’t get it serviced?

The cost of not maintaining your air conditioning equipment could be very high.  There will be a steady decline in air conditioning performance while your energy use will steadily increase, costing you more and more.  On top of that, the extra strain placed on the equipment from not servicing it regularly can end up costing you lots when expensive parts break down and need to be replaced.

How often should I have my air conditioning serviced?

How often your system should be serviced will depend on a number of things such as the environment in which it works, it’s workload and output.  However, as a minimum you should have your system inspected, serviced and cleaned professionally at least once a year.  Many businesses have a major service once a year, with a minor service six months later to ensure the efficient running of their system.  The type of refrigerant in your system can also dictate how frequently you have it serviced, with some requiring maintenance once every six months or even every 3 months.

What’s involved in a service:

Although you may be tempted to service your air conditioning unit yourself we would always recommend that you get the professionals in to do it safely and correctly.  Our engineers are highly trained to carry out maintenance and can often spot potential problems before they become a costly nightmare!

Here we take a look at what’s involved in a full service from 4 Seasons Air Conditioning.

Air Conditioner Filters

Dirty filters are one of the most common problems our engineers see with air conditioning units. Clogged and dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a systems efficiency significantly.  Replacing a dirty filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 15% – a big saving!

Evaporator and Condenser Coils

Like filters, the evaporator coil and condenser coils collect dirt over time.  A clean filter will slow this down but the evaporator coil will still collect dirt.  This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, so reducing its ability to absorb heat.  Outdoor condenser coils can also become very dirty, especially if the environment is dusty or if there is foliage nearby.  During a maintenance service we will ensure that filters and coils are clean and that your air conditioning is operating in tip top condition.

Refrigerant

The refrigerant is one of the most critical components of the air conditioning system, so as part of our service our engineer will check the refrigerant levels and test for any leaks.  It’s important that any gas released from the system is collected and disposed of correctly.  Our engineers are fully-trained and we hold the Refcom accreditation for safe working with refrigerants.

Condensate Drains & Pumps

As part of a service, our engineer will check that the condensate drains are working correctly and that there is nothing blocking them.  Clogged drain channels prevent a unit from reducing humidity and the resulting excess moisture can cause problems.  It’s important to ensure drains are clear of obstructions for the optimum working of your air conditioning.  We will also check and maintain the condensate pumps.

Electronics

Our engineer will also check the electronic and mechanical aspects of the air conditioning system, checking that everything is working correctly.
